More 'Wolverine' Photos -- This Time With Sabretooth!

I know you're probably groaning at seeing yet another X-Men Origins: Wolverine post, but I can't help it! There's new pictures! And the photos are always so cool -- and yes, I am easily pleased when it comes to the admantium one ... and yes, at this point the movie could be Wolverine reading a phone book for 2 hours and I would probably count my money well spent.

Anyway, 20th Century Fox has released five new images from Wolverine -- if you saw the bootleg ComicCon trailer, you'll recognize the image above. I like that Wolverine and Sabretooth appear to be bickering moments before being "executed." Hate runs deep. My favorite of the bunch, though, is the Weapon X photo ... not because it shows off a lot of Hugh Jackman, but because I'm hoping its an indication we see the whole nasty bonding procedure. If it's another blink-and-you-miss it sequence, well, they just missed the point of doing a Wolverine origin story!

Check out all the photos in the gallery below, accompanied by the two that hit the web last week -- and don't be surprised if there's more before the trailer hits on December 12th because, come on ... where the heck is Deadpool?! Where's Beak? We want to see them, too! Even I need a break from Jackman sometimes.

Fan Made: Godzilla Meets Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

When we think of the long Thanksgiving weekend, usually a couple of key things come to mind: Lots of food and ridiculous lines at the mall, with people fighting, breathing fire and trampling one another for that next great deal. Thus, check out this fan-created image mash-up featuring the gang from the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory flick and Godzilla. I'm not sure where in the world the thought came from to mash these two fantastical properties together, but there you have it. One less sequel you have to dream up. Apparently the image was created for Kaiju Monster Invasion, Miami Beach Fine Art Show, which takes place December 3rd through January 4th. Here's their MySpace page. Check out a larger version below. Freaky, right?

A Glimpse of Gambit, Wolverine's Co-Star

The first photo of Taylor Kitsch as the card-charging mutant Gambit has leaked online, scanned from the pages of Empire's upcoming Wolverine themed issue. He's quite dapper, isn't he? You can get away with wearing silky purple shirts and velvet vests when you're a mutant who can charge everyday objects with lethal kinetic energy. Anyone who mocks your taste in colors and fabrics is going to end up fried by a card, a bowl of pretzels, whatever he can grab first.

Cheesy clothing aside, I think Kitsch embodies Gambit quite well. He's got the right amount of scruff, the right hair, and he flings his cards with a casual machismo. This character is one of my biggest stumbling blocks for the movie, because I just don't get where he fits into a Wolverine origin story. He was a buddy to Wolverine in many of the comics, but was usually relegated to being a French Captain Obvious. "Mon ami, you are going to use them adamantium claws, no?" Fans love him though, and after being left out of three X-Men movies, I suspect they've used any excuse they can to work him in. But I know Gambit fans are psyched -- and the fact that he's probably being groomed for a spin-off should make up for his lack of X-Men screentime.

Another 'Notorious' Poster for Biggie Smalls Biopic

It really was about time that Christopher 'Notorious B.I.G.' Wallace received his own biopic. Unfortunately, judging by what I've seen so far, Notorious has been flirting with being one step up from a movie of the week -- and for someone so influential in music history, that's a shame. The latest poster for the biopic has just been released, and like most of the marketing for this film, it leaves you feeling a tad underwhelmed.

Before being crowned "the savior of East Coast hip-hop", Christopher Wallace could have been just another statistic. But, during his short career, he created some of the most influential sounds in hip-hop -- along with launching his producer, Sean 'Diddy' Combs into the spotlight. Notorious was directed by George Tillman Jr. (Barber Shop) and stars Jamal Woolard as Wallace, Angela Basset as his mother, Violetta, and Antonique Smith (RENT) as his ex-wife, Faith Evans.

A few posters have already been released, but in most cases they looked like rejected covers from Source magazine (if you don't believe me, take a gander at some of the previous one-sheets). By the looks of it, this latest poster is going for a decidedly more 'dignified' look -- and in this case, dignified seems to mean ripping off of the Ray poster. Luckily, no matter what the posters or the trailers may look like, at least this movie is going to have one hell of a soundtrack. Check out the full version of this poster after the jump.

Notorious arrives in theaters on January 16, 2009.

First Look: Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in 'Public Enemies'

We've seen a few photos from the set, but Empire has snagged the first official images from Michael Mann's Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in what has to be one of the most anticipated on-screen match-ups of 2009. In the flick, which is based on the book by Bryan Burrough, Bale will portray FBI agent Melvin Purvis, who, under the guidance of J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup), waged a full-on war against the country's most notorious (and successful) criminals -- namely John Dillinger (Depp), Pretty Boy Floyd (Channing Tatum) and Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham). It's a pretty wild true story, and one Mann and his cast should have a ball with. Check out an image of Bale after the jump, and the full images in this month's issue of Empire Magazine.

Public Enemies hits theaters on July 1, 2009.

Fan Made: The Dark Knight Hearts Darth Vader

Since this is a time for giving thanks and being with the ones you love, we thought it might be fun to show you this fan made poster of Batman holding hands with Darth Vader as the two stare out at the city lights below. Of course Batman would never hold hands with the likes of Vader ... in public ... but you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Here are two men who wear black costumes and have a hard time opening up to others. Maybe they would find comfort in one another, during times of silence, when the big, bold, bright city awaits their next move. Everybody needs a hug, right?

All kidding aside, this does remind me to remind you to tune in to Cinematical early next week as we'll have a very cool sneak peek at The Dark Knight on DVD and Blu-ray (in stores December 9). Check out a larger version of the image above by clicking below.

(P.S. So did Batman really die today in comic form, or what?)

More Muscle From 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'

Well, Happy (Almost) Thanksgiving indeed. Between Australia and the flood of X-Men Origins: Wolverine news, you can't turn around without seeing Hugh Jackman's biceps somewhere this week ... not that I'm complaining. How did it take so long for him to be dubbed Sexiest Man Alive, anyway? The physique should have earned it twice over.

Anyway, get a peek of Empire's new Wolverine cover, which will be on shelves in December. Click on him to get the whole thing, and tidbits like this from the magazine's tell-all set visit: "There's a scene in the first X-Men movie," says Jackman, "where Wolverine's introduced in a bar, fighting in a cage, and you felt that he did this every night of his life. If this movie is successful, you should feel that this guy can walk straight off the end of this film and into that bar. "

And in other Origins news, ComingSoon has confirmed that the film's trailer will be seen on December 12th, attached to The Day the Earth Stood Still. Some say that means the sci-fi remake isn't very good, and Fox is counting on the trailer to bolster ticket sales. But do people really do that, particularly in these tough economic times, and with bootlegs providing instant gratification? I doubt it. We'll post it as soon as it appears online, though, count on that.

Exclusive: 'The Reader' Poster Premiere!

See larger version in gallery below

Cinematical has just received this exclusive final poster for The Reader, starring Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes. Directed by Stephen Daldry (The Hours) and based on Bernhard Schlink's bestselling novel, The Reader is one of those talked-about flicks currently circling the Oscar pool trying to decide when it should jump in. From the synopsis:

THE READER opens in post-WWII Germany when teenager Michael Berg becomes ill and is helped home by Hanna, a stranger twice his age. Michael recovers from scarlet fever and seeks out Hanna to thank her. The two are quickly drawn into a passionate but secretive affair. Michael discovers that Hanna loves being read to and their physical relationship deepens. Hanna is enthralled as Michael reads to her from "The Odyssey", "Huck Finn", and "The Lady with the Little Dog." Despite their intense bond, Hanna mysteriously disappears one day and Michael is left confused and heartbroken.

Eight years later, while Michael is a law student observing the Nazi war crime trials, he is stunned to find Hanna back in his life – this time as a defendant in the courtroom. As Hanna's past is revealed, Michael uncovers a deep secret that will impact both of their lives. THE READER is a haunting story about truth and reconciliation, about how one generation comes to terms with the crimes of anothe

The Reader opens in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco on December 10, before expanding on December 25 and opening nationwide on January 9. Check out the film's official website here, the trailer here and a larger version of the poster below.

Geeky: New 'Star Trek' Trailer and Flash 'Terminator: Salvation' Poster!

A new trailer for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek has just debuted over at AICN, but be warned that it's exactly like the other trailer save for one particular scene that comes right at the end. Yup, I won't tell you exactly what happens, but one look at the image above and you can imagine what you'll see. This particular scene was part of the four Cinematical screened last week, and it takes place on the icy planet where Kirk (Chris Pine) gets sent to. It's there where he meets an older version of Spock (played by Leonard Nimoy) and a younger version of Scotty (Simon Pegg). Check out the trailer over at AICN. Star Trek hits theaters on May 8.

Also, a brand new motion poster for Terminator: Salvation just arrived online (check it out at this link). Really digging these flash posters -- this particular one begins on an overhead shot of Los Angeles before slowly transforming into the face of our favorite robot via explosions and fire. Oh, and don't forget that memorable score. Sweet. Terminator Salvation hits theaters on May 22.

Fan Made: Noir-Style 'Terminator' Poster

Not long ago, we featured a noir-style fan made poster for Transformers, created by this dude Timothy Lim. Now, thankfully, Lim has gone and created another gem -- this time for Terminator, with text by John Liem. And it's important to point out the text because it's absolutely perfect for this poster, and totally captures this vintage noir-type vibe. I feel like they don't make many cool movie posters anymore.

I forget where I read a recent complaint about this (feel free to point me in the right direction), but this person was saying how one of the great things about heading to the movie theater used to be to see which cool new movie posters they had on display. These days, it seems studios are obsessed with the floating heads, and, with the exception of a few, there's just way too much junk out there. Bring back the cool movie posters! Check out a larger version of this Terminator poster (and the previous Transformers poster) in the gallery below, and you can buy a print of the Terminator one over here.

Teaser and Photo Premiere: 'Astro Boy'

Cinematical has been given an exclusive look at the first official still for Astro Boy (see above), while our very good looking cohorts over at Moviefone have just debuted the first teaser (see below or over on Moviefone in glorious HD). Based on the popular Japanese manga and television series, this computer-animated 3-D version of Astro Boy is being produced by those wizards over at Imagi Animation Studios, and stars the voices of Freddy Highmore, Kristen Bell, Nicolas Cage, Bill Nighy, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane and Eugene Levy.

From the synopsis: "Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers. Powered by pure positive "blue" energy, Astro Boy (Freddie Highmore) is endowed with super strength, x-ray vision, unbelievable speed and the ability to fly-not to mention the purest spirit on the planet. Embarking on a journey across the planet to discover his powers, Astro Boy encounters a netherworld of robot gladiators and other comic characters, and learns the joys and emotions of being human. When he learns his friends and family are in danger, Astro Boy marshals all his awesome super powers and returns to Metro City, in a valiant effort to save everything he cares about and to embrace his place in the world."

Astro Boy will soar into theaters on October 23, 2009.

First Look: 'Night at the Museum 2'

In anticipation of what's sure to be the first trailer (or teaser) for Night at the Museum 2, USA Today has unloaded the first official batch of photos -- most of which show off a few of the new characters, a couple of returning characters and a cameo from Jonah Hill (who plays a security guard). Above, you'll see Ben Stiller, returning as the bumbling guard, and Bill Hader, who's playing General George Custer. Director Shawn Levy and Stiller both chat up the film, claiming it's definitely better than the first one. And with a cast that includes Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais (all of whom are returning), Christopher Guest, Hank Azaria, Craig Robinson, Ed Helms, Eugene Levy, Bill Hader and Amy Adams, you can't really go wrong.

In the sequel, Stiller's Larry Daley goes in search of his friends (and museum pieces) Octavius (Coogan) and Jedediah (Wilson) after they're mistakenly shipped to the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. On whether this will turn into a franchise for the studio, Levy says, "There are rumblings of another installment. We would love to take this premise (further). But even to say there's a likely third film is premature. We're not going to jinx things." We've included a few more images below, then feel free to hop on over to USA Today for the rest.

Night at the Museum 2 hits theaters on May 22.

Creepy New Stills from Sam Rockwell's 'Moon'

It may not be the most publicized movie out there, but if the new stills that have surfaced for Duncan Jones' Moon are any indication of the film's quality, it might just be one of the most overlooked. Bloody Disgusting now has 18 new photos from the space drama, and if you are a fan of 'serious' sci-fi, then right away you will probably notice some similarities between this and another 'sacred cow' of sci-fi film making. Not to mention that if you're anything like me, and have even the slightest 'space-phobia', then these images are bound to give you a case of the heebie-jeebies.

The incomparable Sam Rockwell stars as Sam Bell, a solo astronaut slowly losing his grip as his assignment on a remote lunar mining station is nearing an end. As his contract with a conglomerate called LUNAR is finishing, Bell begins to put together disturbing facts about the true nature of his replacement -- and judging from the look on Rockwell's face in some of these photos, it is definitely not good news. Joining in on the fun are Kevin Spacey, who provides the voice of a robot companion, and Kaya Scodelario as Sam's wife, Eve.

Even though Moon might not have a high-powered publicity machine behind it, it's a refreshing change to see a film that isn't using a raft of viral campaigns and internet hoaxes to drum up business. I might be alone on this one, but for once it's nice to see a film that is willing to speak for itself -- don't you think?

Moon will arrive in theaters on May 25th, 2009.

'Where the Wild Things Are': New Images, Spike Speaks!

It's been awhile since we heard anything regarding Spike Jonze's adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are, and after the release date was pushed back a year, folks started to spew rumors that Warner Bros. didn't like Jonze's version of the flick, how it was "too adult", how test screenings were making kids cry, how there were reshoots ... and all that nonsense. Cut to today, and AICN has up a lengthy interview with Jonze and his editor Eric Zumbrunnen from their offices, as well as two brand new images from the flick (one of which you can see above). The interview itself is mega long, but fans of Jonze and of Wild Things should definitely read it in its entirety, if only to feel better about where this project is heading. Here are a few interview highlights:

Jonze on where the film is at now: "We just locked picture about three weeks ago, and we'll probably finish all the effects by, like, May or so. Then we mix in May and we have our dates in October, so..."

Jonze on who's scoring the flick: "Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. She did some of the score and is doing some of the score. Her and Carter Burwell are sort of doing it together."

Jonze on problems with the studio: "And I think that's what freaked the studio out about the movie too. It wasn't a studio film for kids, or it wasn't a traditional film about kids. We didn't have like a Movie Kid in our movie, or a Movie Performance in a Movie Kid world. We had a real kid and a real world, and I think that's sort of where our problem was. In the end they realized the movie is what it is, and there's no real way to... it's sort of like they were expecting a boy and I gave birth to a girl. So they just needed their time to sort that out and figure out how they were going to learn to love their new daughter."
