Insert Caption: Frost/Nixon

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game Frost and Nixon both played religiously once they were done talking about that whole Watergate thing. Last week we asked you to dish out a caption or several in honor of a little film the kids like to call "OMG ... I luv you Robert Pattinson!" The rest of us, however, use the title Twilight. We had tons of submissions, and at the end of the day we went with the one that didn't "suck". Heh. Get it? I'm lame. Congrats Jennifer!

1. "So, I thought you said you would try to lay off the garlic bread for a while..." -- Jennifer B.

This week we're listening in on a very important (and historic) series of interviews between Richard Nixon and David Frost in the buzzed-about Frost/Nixon, directed by Ron Howard and starring Frank Langella (Nixon) and Michael Sheen (Frost). The three folks behind our favorite captions this week will slip away with one Frost/Nixon poster, one Frost/Nixon t-shirt, and one Frost/Nixon hat. Sound off below ...

Halloween Costume Contest: The Winners!

Above: This year's child costume winner, Mr. T.

It took a little bit of time to get the votes sorted and contact the winners, but we can finally announce the two winners of Cinematical's Fourth Annual Halloween Costume Contest! We had more entries this year than any year before, and it was absolutely painful to trim the group down to 10 finalists in each of our two categories (best adult costume and best child costume). Once we did settle on our finalists, though, we left it up to you fine folks to vote for the winners ... and that you did. After receiving roughly 13,000 votes, we'd like to congratulate our child winner, Mr. T (pictured above). Check out the other child finalists in the gallery below, and you can see the adult runner-ups -- as well as our winner, Optimus Prime -- after the jump. See ya next year folks!

Insert Caption: Twilight

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game vampires and their totally awesome human girlfriends love to play together on date night! Last week we asked you to give us your best captions for a wacky photo from the flick Sukiyaki Western Django, which is currently out on DVD. With only one person to award the grand prize, our crack team of caption judges spent hours (screw that, days!) searching for the right mix of humor, heart and heroics. Here, then, is our winner -- congratulations to you, sir!

1. "Despite producing some of the most innovative music of the 1980's, Japanese Country-Style Gangsta Hip-Hop was short-lived." -- Kurt P.

This week, well, we're celebrating a film that needs no introduction. It opens in theaters today, it was adapted from a very popular book, it stars one of the hottest guys in the history of the galaxy (Pattinson? Try Hottinson!) ... and it has something to do with vampires. Yup, it's time to sharpen those teeth and take a real nice bite out of the photo below from the film Twilight. Here's where it gets tasty: One very lucky grand prize winner will hop, skip, walk and dance away with one Autographed Twilight poster, one Movie tie-in paperback, one Movie Companion book and one Twilight Soundtrack. All I know is one lucky fan is about to win the Twilight lottery. Sound off below ...

Insert Caption: Sukiyaki Western Django

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption - the game that I totally missed writing about last week, but am thankful our good pal Kevin filled in. Last week we asked you to channel your inner animated animal and produce a quirky-enough caption for a photo from the new hit flick Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Congrats to our three winners; our poor lion friend will never be the same.

1. "Fifty bucks says he picks his nose."
"Double or nothing he eats it." -- Mike R.

2. I've got a joke for you: What has furry opposable thumbs and is about to re-enact his favorite scene from the movie Alive? This guy. -- Nathan T.

3. The others were getting tired of his bad Dr. Evil impersonation. -- Lauren L.

This week we're celebrating the very cool Japanese action-western Sukiyaki Western Django, directed by Takashi Mike. The film tells of a revolver-wielding stranger who crosses paths with two warring clans who are on the hunt for treasure in a remote Western town. The DVD is now available in stores, and one grand prize winner will walk away with one Sukiyaki Western Django wooden coffin containing a set of three collector's steel books, one Samurai robe, one canvas scroll with poster art, one six shooter hydro-gun and one limited edition deck of playing cards. Um, I want. Sound off below cowboys (and girls) ...

Halloween Costume Contest: You Vote for the Winner!

Before we begin, let me just say that our little Halloween Costume Contest received a record turnout this year, and it's taken some time for our team of crack judges to narrow down the field to ten finalists in each of the two categories. 2008 was by far the toughest year yet, and all of us here at Cinematical were amazed to see the creativity, passion, love and just plain movie geekdom that went into all of these costumes. Unfortunately, we couldn't make everyone a finalist as there were only ten spots available in the adult category and child category, but we feel our selections represent the best of the best. From all of us here at the site to all of you out there -- thank you for participating, thank you for reading and thank you for being a fan. Now, onto the voting!

Here's how this works: Below you will see a photo gallery for each category. Within each photo gallery, there are ten images which represent each finalist alongside a number and the character they're dressed up as. Below each gallery there is a poll listing the numbers and characters as per the order they show up in their gallery (note: this order is random). We need you to look through each gallery, then vote for who you feel has the best costume in the polls. Got it? Good.

The Adult Finalists are listed below, and the Kid Finalists are listed after the jump (along with the prizing and official rules). We'll keep the voting open through Friday. Good luck!

Insert Caption: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

Welcome to Insert Caption, the game where Cinematical editor Erik Davis usually writes something reasonably funny in the opening graph, but since Erik is on a set visit across the pond, we're instead left with a massive void. Congrats to last week's Role Models winner-elects below, the world already feels like a better place because of you. (Btw, if you like your comedy awesome, check out Role Models this weekend.)

1. "Barack? Mr. Ayres is here to pick you up to go pallin' around." -- Charles P.

2. "So Angie just returned this one?"
-- Kyle S.

3. "Damn...I was hoping I would get McLovin." -- Andrew W.

This week we move on to the country continent of Africa with the animated sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. As much as we'd like to send you there for your own romp with precocious and adorable talking animals, instead we're offering the three writers of our favorite captions a prize pack that includes the soundtrack (do you like to move it, move it?), three stuffed animals (Alex, Marty and Gloria), a flash drive and a poster signed by the cast. Good deal, say we. Sound off now...

Insert Caption: Role Models

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the online game that goes out of its way not to be a role model for your kids. Last week we asked you to look into the magic mirror and give us your best haunted, angsty Catholic school girl for a photo from the new flick The Haunting of Molly Hartley. And while I appreciate the dude who gave a shout out to yours truly in his caption, as well as the person who shared that hilariously random South Park reference (you know who you are), it was the following three captions that somehow scraped their way to the top.

1. "Okay, now to just carve the "B" ..." -- Paul K.

2. "Okay, Dank bathroom: Check. Hint of blood: Check. Schoolgirl outfit: Check. Now, if I can just look depressed enough, maybe Linkin Park will appear and start playing." -- Mark H.

3. "Just keep it together Haley and repeat after me: Alyson Hannigan is knocked up. This. Is. Your. Chance." -- Christie H.
.

This week we're shifting away from creepy girls who stare at themselves in the mirror and moving toward creepy guys who stare at kids while they draw. That's because we're celebrating the upcoming comedy Role Models (in theaters November 7), starring Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd as a couple of screw-ups who get arrested and subsequently sentenced to 150 hours with a mentorship program. Hilarity ensues. The three folks behind our favorite captions will each snag one Role Models hat, one Role Models t-shirt and one Role Models poster. Go for it ...

Details Magazine Wants Your Movie Pitches

All movie fans have experienced the sensation of watching something terrible and thinking, "What is this crap? I could totally come up with something better than this!" Well, now you can put your money where your mouth is, as Details magazine is inviting people to submit movie ideas, the best of which will actually be turned into a movie.

Variety has a variety of details on the Details contest. Larry Meistrich, an indie film producer with more than 30 credits to his name (including You Can Count on Me and Sling Blade), will help Details choose the winner and oversee production of the film. All genres and concepts are welcome, and you can submit anything from a rough plot outline to a finished screenplay. There's a $10 entrance fee, but it costs that much just to watch a movie. Making a movie for 10 bucks is a total bargain! Plus, the entrance fee earns you a year's subscription to Details.

Details wants the winning idea to appeal to "intelligent, modern, metropolitan men." Hmm. Is that what Details thinks of itself? Off the top of my head, here are some movie ideas that you can use if you really want to tap into the Details mindset.
  • A guy spends $1,000 on a shirt, then reads some articles about the right way to wear the shirt, then tells his friends he spent $1,000 on a shirt, and his friends laugh at him for being a douchebag.
  • A magazine writer is working on a tight deadline and can't come up with anything to write about, so he makes up a saucy, non-existent trend ("Are threeways on the upswing?"), farts out 500 words on the subject, stretches it to three pages by filling it with unrelated photos of models wearing expensive underwear, and calls it a day.
  • A guy lives his life doing everything he can to appeal to gays while avoiding actually saying he's trying to appeal to gays. (That one's an allegory.)
Anyone else got one? Oh, and as for specifics on how to enter the contest -- no idea. The Variety article doesn't say, and I can't find anything on the Details website, either. Thanks to Stephen in the comments for finding info on how to enter.

Contest: Win Tickets to See 'Quantum of Solace' Early!

Cinematical
has been handed 10 single tickets for an early screening of Quantum of Solace in Los Angeles, and we were wondering if any of you would like to go? The screening is being held on November 11, which is a few days before the film hits theaters, so see it before your friends, your family and that Bond fanatic in your office who insists on sleeping outside for tickets to the first show even though he can simply go online and buy them. Not only will you snag a ticket for this special secret screening, but the 10 folks chosen will also take home a sweet 007 gift bag that's got all kinds of neat stuff tucked away inside.

Now in order to win a ticket, you have to leave a comment below with an active email address telling us why you'd like to attend, and you MUST live in or around the Los Angeles area (transportation to and from the theater will not be provided). We'll choose 10 random commenters once this whole thing wraps up on Friday, October 31st. Check out the full rules after the jump, and good luck to you!

Quantum of Solace hits theaters on November 14.

Insert Caption: The Haunting of Molly Hartley

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game some people claim rises from the dead, but then heads back down because it's way too lazy to haunt people. Last week, we asked you to spit out some captions for a photo of that hotsy-totsy sheba Angelina Jolie from her new moving picture, Changeling. What a gal! Once we navigated our way through a maze of adoption jokes, we came across these three winners. Congrats to you!

1. "I'm sorry, when you said 'Say hello to my little friend,' I thought we were talking about something else entirely." Matt H.

2. "Hmm, I don't know. Do yo have anything in an albino?" -- Stephen M.

3. "Beverly is shocked when Alan unveils his conjoined twin, Bradford." -- Dan L.

This week, we're entering a creepy stare-off contest ... against ourselves! Oh, and we're also celebrating the new freaky flick The Haunting of Molly Hartley (in theaters on October 31). [In Mark Wahlberg's voice] What's up Molly? I don't want to haunt you, I just wanna talk to you, okay? Say hi to your mother for me. Moving on from my lame jokes, we've got some cool stuff for the winners of this caption contest. First off, one grand prize winner will take away one $250 iTunes gift card, and two runners up will each receive one 1 GB iPod shuffle. Now that's what my little sister (not named Molly) would call, "Wicked dope, yo!" Sound off below ...

We host a lot of contests throughout the year, but it is now my pleasure to announce the official launching of my absolute favorite: Cinematical's Fourth Annual Halloween Costume Contest is on! Now you have more than one use for that awesome movie-related Halloween costume, right? Hellz yes, I'm talking some sweet movie gear too!

So, again, that's two prize packages this year: One for adults over 18 and one for kids under 18. Like in previous contests (check out last year's winners), your costumes MUST be movie-related. We're taking submissions starting now and all the way up until November 6th. Once our spook-tacular judges here at Cinematical narrow the field down to 10 finalists in each category, we'll then let you vote (via poll) for the winner. And speaking of winners, here's what you'll receive:

Insert Caption: Changeling

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game that promises to abduct your grouchy mood and never bring it back. (Oy, my jokes are getting lamer by the minute.) Last week we asked you to dig deep down into your most sarcastic of places for a photo from the new Oliver Stone film, W. And might I add that we received some of the funniest captions yet, which, according to some, probably makes you eligible to become president of the United States. Or not. Congrats to our three winning delegates ...

1. "Karl Rove runs his spell checker just in time before George launched his War on Terrier." -- Mike H

2. "I'm picking you to be my ambassador to Scotland, cuz you're a scotty dog." -- Stephen M.

3. "Didn't I tell both of you not to make 'exit strategies' on the White House lawn?" -- Ryan N.

This week we're on a mission to help a woman find her son (or make that the right son), as we take a look at a photo from Clint Eastwood's new film, Changeling, starring those big, bold and beautiful Oscar-buzzed pair of lips, Angelina Jolie. The three folks behind our favorite captions this week will scurry away with one very cool Changeling poster. Now say it like you mean it in the comments section below ...

Welcome back to another installment of Insert Caption -- the game President Bush would love to play ... if only he knew how to find the internet. Zing! Last week we asked you to "go long" for a photo from the new movie The Express, and score you did. Congrats to the three sports who managed to cross into our funny zone. (Get it -- instead of end zone, I said funny zone? Heh ... wait, why aren't you laughing?)

1. "Staring Contest? This is no Staring Contest....This is FOOTBALL!" -- Darren C.

2. 'Coach: Why aren't you playing up to your obvious potential yet?
Player: Because we haven't had the requisite training montage yet!" -- Matt B.

3. "Damn ... Did you hear about O.J.?" -- Chaz K.

I'm a little afraid of the captions we'll be receiving this week, in honor of the new Oliver Stone flick W. (in theaters October 17), though I'm sure our readers will show a little {cough} respect with their captions. Based on the life and times of our current president (who'll be leaving office in just a few months), W. stars Josh Brolin (as W.) and a whole slew of all stars as some of our most favorite political heroes. The candidates behind our three favorite captions will spin away with one W. poster, one W. t-shirt and a set of six W. shot glasses. Sound off below ...

Cinematical's Fourth Annual Halloween Costume Contest is Coming!

Pictured: The winners of Cinematical's Third Annual Costume Contest in the adult category

Hey, so did you know that dressing up in a movie-related costume for Halloween could win you all sorts of fabulous prizes from your most favorite online movie destination? Of course you knew this ... and now that it's October, we here at Cinematical are putting the finishing touches on our Fourth Annual Halloween Costume Contest. Like we have in previous years, we'll be giving away a pretty awesome Halloween-themed prize package to our top winner(s) in each of our two categories: best adult costume and best children's costume.

The contest will begin on October 20th and run through early November (exact dates to be named later). We'll be working with the same rules as last year more or less (read a few after the jump), but instead of letting you vote in the comments, we'll be creating a poll for you to use. Make sure to check out last year's contest for costume ideas and such, and get your ass back here later this month for our official contest kick off post where we'll announce the sweeet prize packages.

Happy Halloween movie freaks!

Insert Caption: The Express

Welcome back to another installment in our groundbreaking, game-changing (to borrow a phrase from the news anchors of the world) Insert Caption series -- where you provide the content and we provide the prizes. Last week we asked you to dish out some captions for a photo from How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, which opens in theaters today. Congrats to our three winners -- none of whom include you, dude.

1. "But the ad said the auditions were for Hair" -- Debra F.

2. "All Simon's attempts to compliment Jeff's "very masculine" hair piece ended in futility after mistakenly introducing himself to whom he thought was "Mrs. Bridges." -- Nathan H.

3. "Look, it's part of the bailout agreement. I get to keep my CEO golden parachute, and you have to swim back to England." -- Kevin M.

This week we've purchased a one-way ticket for The Express, which hits theaters on October 10th, and follows the story of Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. The three readers who score a touchdown with our caption judges this week will hit the showers with a prize package that includes one The Express poster, one The Express t-shirt, one The Express hat and one The Express mini football. Sunday afternoon will never be the same again. Sound off below ...
